These are the dramatic scenes as a major gorse fire raged on the outskirts of Dungloe last night.
Two sections of the fire service from Dungloe and another from Gaoth Dobhair arrived at the scene of the fire in the townland of Tubberkeen.
The blaze is threatened to spread out of control and is close to a number of homes.
One of the homes in the vicinity belongs to broadcaster Gay Byrne.
The fire broke out a short time ago at around 10pm. Gardai have sealed off roads in the area.
One eye-witness told Donegal Daily that the fire is burning on hillside behind a number of houses in the area.
“It’s a major fire now but the fire service are trying to bring it under control. Hopefully the wind is blowing in the right direction that it blows away form the houses,” he said.
The blaze comes just days after Donegal County Council issued a warning for people to be vigilant because of a recent dry spell of weather.
