Donegal TD Joe McHugh has contacted Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Phil Hogan, to describe the Rathmullan public water supply as an issue of “grave concern and urgency.”
The Fine Gael TD pleaded with the Minister to address the issue of the water supply as quickly as possible.
In recent days the issue of bacteriological and chemical parametric values of the water supply has been highlighted.
“Donegal County Council proposed through its West Donegal Regional Water Supply study options for the upgrade/replacement of the Rathmullan water supply, to replace the supply with water from the adjacent Milford supply which in turn would be augmented through pipeline interconnectors through the Cranford, Letterkenny and Milford networks.
“I understand that Donegal County Council is in discussion with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a view to advancing the necessary works.
“My view is that the works must commence as quickly as possible, and I hope that your Department will be able to address this matter promptly,” he said.
