A man paid for an envelope from a shop in Letterkenny and then stole more than €300 from a till, a court has heard.
Judge Paul Kelly has ordered a probation report on Darren Clerkin after he appeared in court charged with a number of shoplifting offences.
Clerkin, 36, appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with a number of offences.
The charges include the theft of a number of items of alcohol from various shops in Letterkenny including ALDI and Dunnes Stores in September, 2012.
The court also heard that Clerkin of 4 Crerand House, Larkin’s Lane, Letterkenny, stole €300 from Donegal Stationary at Lower Main Street.
He paid for an envelope but when the cash register was open he swiped a bundle of €50 notes from the cash drawer.
A shop assistant was able to identify Clerkin and he admitted the offence.
The court heard that Clerkin had a problem with alcohol.
