Donegal tourism could go into orbit with the arrival of one of the world’s most famous astronauts.
It follows an invitation sent by Buncrana Town Councillor Ciaran McLaughlin to International Space Station Commander Chris Hadfield to visit the county.
Cllr McLaughlin contacted Commander Hadfield’s son Evan and the pair spoke about the astronaut’s love of Ireland and Donegal.
And now Cllr McLaughlin said he is hopeful of arranging a date for a visit when he contacts Evan again in June.
“It would be great if he could come and I really think it would benefit tourism in Donegal and the North West in general.
“You can only imagine how interesting his visit would be considering all his experiences.
“And ultimately it would be great exposure for Donegal,” said Cllr McLaughlin.
Commander Hadfield hit the headlines in recent weeks when he revealed his love of Donegal.
He even sang Danny Boy live in space on St.Patrick’s day as the international space station passed over Donegal and Derry.
