Donegal’s attempts to break the world record for the most number of Paddys in one place is to feature on Tonight’s Late Late Show.
Organisers are to reveal details of the novel plan to RTE host Ryan Tubridy on the show.
And Donegal Daily can reveal that there is to be a real Donegal treat for everyone in the audience.
In keeping with the surprise element of the show, we’re sworn to secrecy about the giveaway.
All we can say is that the local tourist body will be delighted with the Late Late Show surprise!
The Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar is the setting for the record attempt for the most number of people called Paddy.
Other versions of the name including Pauric, Pat and Patricia will be accepted for the record attempt for St Patrick’s Day.
Organisers say they need a total of 1,070 Paddys or Patricias to beat the current record which was set in Dubai in 2005 when 1,096 Muhammads gathered.
The Guinness Book of World Records has set down strict guidelines to make sure it is a genuine world record attempt.
Entrants must bring a copy of their birth certificate to prove their name and variations of the name Paddy must be agreed beforehand by organisers.
The event, which is called “We’re Counting On You Paddy”, is part of the Twin Towns Gathering Project.
One of the organisers, Kathy Taaffe, said the record attempt will be hosted at the Finn Valley Athletics Centre by Irish Olympic Team manager Patsy McGonagle.
“It’s going to be a great day but we need to get the message out there to all those Paddys, Pats and Patricias that we need their support.
“It’s just a bit of fun but it’s on St.Patrick’s Day and there will be a real party atmosphere.
“We’ll try and get a few famous Paddys but a thousand plus people with the same name or close to it, is no easy task,” she said.
Any Paddys, Pats, Padraigs, Patricias or Tricias interested in a great day out can go to the Facebook Page ‘We’re Counting On You Paddy.’
