LETTERKENNY Hospital management has defended the increase in car parking charges, insisting the money will be spent by them.
The HSE confirmed Donegal Daily’s story that car parking for up to 4 hours will now be charged at €3.00 (previously €2.50) whilst the 24 hour charge will now be €6.00 previously €5.00.
The short stay dedicated visitor car park charges will remain unchanged at €1.20 per hour. Also the weekly charge will remain unchanged at €15.00.
The HSE said: “This is the first increase in hospital parking charges in over 4 years and reflects the need to fund the on-going car park developments and maintenance without utilising the budget allocated to the hospital.”
Hospital Manager Seán Murphy said that “no element of this price increase will be paid to the car park operator. The total income from these charge increases will be made available to the hospital.”
Peter Byrne Facilities Manager at LRH said: “The last two years have seen significant expansion of car parking spaces at the hospital.
“However, further works are required to prepare for future expansion and also to improve the condition of areas of the existing car park, especially on the St. Conal’s site.”
