Firecrews from Letterkenny were forced to the scene of a blaze close to Glenveagh National Park last night after rubbish was dumped and set alight.
It is understood the rubbish was dumped and then set alight by a member of the public.
However, the blaze spread quickly and put local wildlife under threat.
A local man from Letterkenny, who was passing the scene, managed to dampen down the flames before the fire service arrived.
The fire has been brought under control but considerable damage has been caused.
