PROTESTORS DEFEND PLANS TO PICKET TAOISEACH’S VISIT TO LETTERKENNY TODAY

Taoiseach Milford 3The group ‘Can’t Pay Won’t Pay’ has defended its decision to protest against the visit of Taoiseach Enda Kenny to Letterkenny on Monday afternoon.

The protestors say it is intended to send a strong message to the Taoiseach that the Property Tax and Water charges will be “strongly resisted” in Donegal.

“Donegal has shown the highest level of non-compliance with the Household Charge and Septic Tank registration. We want Enda Kenny to return to Dublin with the message that it will be the same with the Property Tax.” said spokesperson Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig.

“The people in our county has been battered by austerity. We simply cannot afford the added burden of these unfair taxes and charges. The CSO has recently revealed that disposable household incomes continue to fall while household incomes in Donegal are now €3,000 less that the national average. We have nothing more to give and have no option but to resist.

“Having failed to bully us into paying the hated Household Charge, Enda Kenny’s government are now threatening us with draconian measures to force us into paying the Property Tax – the introduction of snitch clauses, the right to snoop on our homes, the threat to snatch wages and benefits. These measures are an indication of the desperation of the government and not it’s strength. We can defeat them by continuing to stand together.

Can’t Pay Won’t Pay intend to protest outside the LYIT at 2.30 today during the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly.

Politicians from throughout these islands are in the county for three days.

During a visit to Milford last year some campaigners threw eggs at the Taoiseach’s car (pictured above).
