QPS Res 0-2 Aileach Res
After an even opening the visitors broke the deadlock on 7 minutes when Gavin Gallagher in the home goal parried a Stephen O Donnell corner allowing James Wallace to bundle the ball home from close range.The point responded positively and dominated the next period of the game.A quick free by Paul Hegarty released Aiden Lynch who played a one two with Dean Hegarty but fired wide.Stephen King then rose unchallenged at the back post to head a John McCloskey cross wide before McCloskey headed Paul Hegarty’s corner just over the top.Aileach replied on 21 minutes with O’Donnell’s free kick well held by Gallagher in the home goal.Midway through the half King advanced on the right and saw his super cross taken off the head of McCloskey by the alert McGeady.Aileach responded with another free from O’ Donnell saved by Gallagher.The point ended the half strongly with Paul Hegarty’s driven free kick well saved low to his right by McGeady before the keeper advanced to smother at the feet of Lynch as he raced onto a Dean Hegarty through ball.The point opened strongly with Lynch seeing his effort smothered by McGeady before Stephen Grant dispossessed a defender and raced into the area but saw his effort held by McGeady.On 63 minutes Sean McIvor’s looping effort was clawed away by McGeady before Lynch fired over from a good position. The home side then had a gilt edged chance after Paul Hegarty’s free was flicked on by McIvor to Dean Hegarty but he fired wide from eight yards.They continued to press and on 72 minutes McCloskeys cross found Paul Hegarty who headed agonisingly wide from ten yards.
Paul Hegarty then rattled the crossbar with a fine thirty yards effort before in a quick break Liam Burke broke clear but saw his effort saved at the expense of a corner by Gallagher.The point threw caution to the wind and when Paul Hegarty picked out McIvor with a fine crossfield ball his cross was met by Lynch whose powerful header also crashed back off the bar.In the last minute a quick clearance by McGeady sent Ciaran Criag clear and he converted the rebound after his initial effort was parried by Gallagher to put a gloss on the scoreline that did not reflect the pattern of the game.
Rasheney Res 1-5 Glengad Res
Glengad got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring on 5 minutes when a long ball fro Conor Farren was not cleared by the home defence and ran all the way past Sean Friel in the home goal.Rasheney hit back on 14 minutes when John Doherty fed Brian Doherty but after his effort was blocked by Stephen McLaughlin in the visitors defence the rebound fell to Kevin Noone who fired wide.Glengad increased their lead on 21 minutes after Christopher McLaughlin collected a crossfield pass and hammered a powerful half volley from twenty five yards past Friel.Niall McLaughlin then had a shot blocked by Rasheney’s Sean Doherty before play switched to the other end where Gary Doherty had a long range effort saved by Michael McLaughlin. Glengad made it three nil on 36 minutes when top scorer Gary Kelly pounced on a defensive error to drill the ball home from ten yards.They as good as sealed the tie before the break when a deep cross from Farren found Christopher McLaughlin who slotted home at the back post. Glengad almost increased their lead on the restart but Friel in the home goal made a superb save to deny Kelly.Rasheney upped the tempo and pressed the visitors back for a period with John Doherty’s mazy run ending with an attempted lob which landed on top of the net.They got a goal back on 79 minutes when Ryan Doherty’s well flighted corner eluded all and landed in the net.But Glengad hit back and when Kelly rounded keeper Friel he was upended but Stephen McLaughlin’s spot kick was brilliantly saved by Friel diving to his right. In the last minute Rasheney forced a corner and with all players forward Glengad cleared the ball to Niall McLaughlin who walked the ball half the length of the pitch before sliding to the unguarded net to set up a final appearance in a few weeks time with Aileach Res.

Monaghan Town 1-2 Moville Celtic
Moville advanced to the semi final with an excellent win over a Monaghan Town side who had defeated Aileach in the previous round.Moville had a great chance in the opening minute when Shane Canning’s through ball found Nigel McMonagle on the run but his effort was blocked by the legs of Ballantine in the home goal. Monaghan replied with Sean McCruddens twenty five yards free well held under pressure by Sean McGuinness.The home side missed a sitter then when Paul Smith collected a poor clearance but totally miskicked when well placed.Moville hit back then with Tony Boyce and Shaun Doherty combining but the formers cross found McMonagle who was muscled out of possession.Moville opened the scoring on 26 minutes when McMonagle collected a superb cross field pass from Doherty and played a neat one two with Joe Doherty before seeing his effort deflected past Ballantine. Graeme Doherty then released Joe Doherty but with time and space he miscontrolled and the chance was lost.Monaghan went close just before the break after Tony Toal crossed to McRudden but he blazed wide when in a good position.On the restart the home side threatened first when poor defending allowed Conor Callen a sight of goal but McGuinness saved well.Moville lifted the pace and doubled their lead when McMonagle controlled the ball and beat two defenders before lifting his shot over Ballantine and Raymond Campbell followed up to make sure.McMonagle then fired two good chances off target on 69 and 75 minutes when well placed.A minute later the home side reduced the deficit when after Moville failed to clear a corner substitute Shane Hannon volleyed superbly to the net from eight yards.Monaghan pressed hard and had one really good chance when Callen crossed to Paul Smith but he volleyed over.
Carn FC 3-0 Curragh Athletic
The home side dominated the early exchanges with Michael Byrne firing a free kick narrowly wide before Declan McGonagle was unlucky to see a header crash off the bar.They broke the deadlock on 18 minutes after a Matthew Byrne free found Gerard McEleney who powered a header to the top corner from twelve yards past Roy Duffy.Midway through the half Michael Byrne saw another free well saved by Duffy.Curragh pressed then before the interval when a Paddy Collins cross was headed out to Marcus Oliver but from twenty five yards he fired over. Collins then won possession and fed Oliver but from inside the area he drilled his effort wide.carn increased their advantage within minutes of the restart when Michael Byrne released Daniel Mclaughlin and he ran into the area to round Duffy and slot home.Curragh then spurned a golden chance to get back into the game after a Ryan Carlin cross found the unmarked Colin McGinn who headed wide.Carn upped the tempo then with Michael Byrne firing a free kick just over before the same player got on the end of a Brenan Tabb scissors kick to head home from ten yards.In the final minute they could have added another when McGonagle broke and crossed for Tabb but he headed over when well placed.

Culdaff FC 2-3 Glengad United
If Glengad go on to win their first league title they will look back on this game as the game they got out of jail as with the game heading for a two all draw they were awarded a hotly contested penalty in injury time. Glengad started the game on top and were awarded a penalty after only five minutes when Patrick McDermott was upended in the area.McDermott picked himself up but his kick lacked conviction and Darragh Mclaughlin made a fine save low to his right.They did take the lead on 9 minutes when good approach play saw Stephen Mclaughlin advance along the end line and roll the ball across goal for John McDaid to slot home.Mcdaid then found space and unleashed a twenty five yards effort which McLaughlin turned around the post at full stretch.Culdaff came into the game then with a powerful Brendan Mclaughlin volley from twenty five yards turned round the post at full stretch by Martin McLaughlin.Minutes later they levelled when Culdaffs Mclaughlin fired s superb free over the wall and into the bottom right hand corner.But Glengad restored their lead on 22 minutes after Terence Doherty fed Stephen McLaughlin whose deep cross was headed back across keeper Mclaughlin by John G McLaughlin.Again Culdaff responded with good control by Eugene McLaughlin seeing him turn and shoot but McLaughlin saved well.The home side got back on terms on 31 minutes when Conor O Brien collected a loose ball and unleashed a powerful twenty five yards effort which squeezed under keeper McLaughlin and over the line.John McDaid then for the visitors had a shot well held by Mclaughlin before at the other end O Brien and Brendan Mclaughlin combined for the latters effort to be blocked by Shane Doherty.On 37 minutes Glengad almost regained the lead when another deep cross from the right by John G McDermott found JG McLaughlin and his effort deflected off the head of a defender and onto the post.Charlie Byrne then found spce and unleashed a twenty yards shot which whistled just over the angle of post and bar.On the stroke of half time the home side went close after O’Brien lifted the ball over a defender and raced into the left hand side of the area before seeing his shot drift just past the far post.The second period was a much tighter affair with the home side going close when Patrick McGrenaghan’s cross shot was tipped over by Mclaughlin.At the other end Glengad spurned a good chance when McDermott’s deep free from the right found the inrushing JG McLaughlin who somehow headed wide.Culdaff responded and on 66 minutes JJ Doherty broke on the right and his superb cross was punched clear by keeper Mclaughlin as Niall Gordon lurked with menace. In the last five minutes Culdaff retreated deeper and deeper with Glengad peppering the box with balls from all angles but Dermot Diver and Brian McGonigle mopped everything up.
Then in injury time Stephen Mclaughlin was adjudged to have been hauled down and despite lengthy protests Patrick McDermott kept his nerve to drill home the spot kick.Culdaff had time to force a corner and JJ Doherty at full stretch headed over to bring the curtain down on a well contested local derby.

Carrowmena FC 2-1 Gleneely Colts
In the 10th minute Kevin McDermott fed JP McDermott and his looping effort was well gathered by Jason McElhinney. Minutes later Eamon Doherty found Finbar McCallion on the right and he released Gerard Gill to cut in and curl a shot which just eluded the inrushing Doherty and sailed wide.Gleneely replied on 28 minutes when Danny Mclaughlin fed JP Lafferty who in turn released Drew Crumlish but he fired over from the edge of the area. The home side spurned a great chance when the unmarked Conor O Doherty headed into the arms of McElhinney with the goal gaping. Gleneely started the second period well and on 56 minutes Eddie McNamee fed Ronan Kearney who turned a defender and released Lafferty on the left and he crossed for Crumlish who saw his effort crash off the bar.From the long kick out Gerard Gill latched onto the ball and lobbed the advancing McElhinney from twenty five yards.The colts upped the tempo and equalised when Crumlish headed on for Lafferty who fired over Michael Noone to the roof of the net from the edge of the area.The colts spurned another good chance on 79 minutes after McLaughlin ‘s ball over the top found Lafferty whose effort was brilliantly parried by Noone. Carrowmena replied with Gill beating the offside trap and seeing his well hit shot saved by McElhinney before substitutes Mark McGonigle and Samuel Bredin combined with McGonigle’s deep cross slotted home at the back post by Bredin.
Moville Celtic Res 1-2 Dunree United
This was a crucial win for the visitors and they achieved it the hard way coming from a goal down.The home side had a clear chance on 8 minutes when Christy McGeoghaghan fed Ryan Killen who delayed allowing keeper David Eccles to smother.They took the lead on 22 minutes after a superb through ball from James Gillen sent Sean Downey clear and he lifted the ball over the advancing Eccles to score.They continued to press and Gillen then fed Conor Lafferty inside the area but he dragged his effort wide of the post.Dunree came ore into the game then and got back on terms on 40 minutes when an inswinging Philip McGuinness corner was headed home at the near post by James Doherty.On the stroke of half time a corner from the opposite side also inswinging found the unmarked Neil J McCarron to herad home at the back post.Moville started the second half well exerting pressure without creating any clear chance.Dunree were also very dangerous on the break and on 58 minutes McGuinness saw his superb strike from thrity yards tipped over by Shane Skelly.The home side upped the tempo in the final quarter and Lafferty was unlucky to see his effort from distance crash off the bar with Eccles beaten.On the stroke of full time they forced a corner and Darryl Doherty poked the ball wide following a scramble.
Greencastle FC 1-3 QPS
The visitors got a dream start when after a corner the ball broke to Adam Harkin to drill low past Seamus Bovaird from close range with the home defence appealing for handball.Greencastle replied and Jack Keys saw his free kick blocked by Stephen McCarron.Midway through the half McCarron then pounced on a defensive error to cross for Raymond Buchanan to drill the ball home and double their lead.The home side again tried to respond and when James Henry released Brian Kone his effort was deflected behind.The point increased their lead to three then before the interval when an Oisin McCool cross from the left was misjudged by Bovaird allowing McCarron to slot home .In a brisk opening to the second half Michael Barr headed a Conor Barrow corner over the top while at the other end Charlie Gill made a timely intervention to deny McCarron.The points Buchanan then fed McCool but he fired wide before Greencastle reduced the deficit on 66 minutes when Henry fed Barrow who turned and curled a superb left footed effort to the top corner.The point responded then with Buchanan seeing his half volley dip over while Buchanan was denied by an excellent save from Bovaird.Substitute Tony McClenaghan then broke onm the right for the home side and fed the ball inside to Sean McQuillan but he failed to hit the target from the edge of the area. In the final action Odhran McColgan for the point broke clear of the home defence but saw his shot well saved.
Buncrana Hearts Res 2-1 Rasheney FC
Not for the first time this season Buncrana have thrown a spanner in the works of one of the promotion teams.Rasheney started the game well with John McLaughlin seeing an early shot well saved by Eoin O Doherty in the home goal. Buncrana replied with Declan Fullerton seeing a shot blocked by the defensive wall before a Gerard Boyle shot cannoned off Conor Burke to Fullerton who blazed over.Fullerton and Boyle then combined but the latter failed to hit the target before on the stroke of half time a scramble in the Buncrana penalty area saw Declan O Donnell clear off the line.Buncrana made a dream start to the second period when in the opening minute Peter Gallagher crossed from the left for the unmarked Boyle to slot past Noone.Rasheny upped the tempo and restored parity on 62 minutes when Denis Hegarty headed home from a corner.They spurned a great chance then after Christy Ivers broke clear but blazed over the bar.Buncrana made them pay for this missed opportunity when Johnny Eccles crossed for the ageless Alan Friel to slot home from close range.Rasheny pressed hard for the closing minutes but could not salvage a point.

Greencastle Res 0-3 Cockhill Colts
After an even opening period in good conditions the home sides Ronan Doherty ran onto a Cathal Kelly pass before rounding a defender and seeing his effort saved by Liam Lynch.Cockhill responded minutes later and broke the deadlock when after a corner the ball broke to Gary Breslin who looped an overhead kick just under the bar past Seamus Bovaird from fourteen yards.Greencastl replied midway through the half when Ronan Doherty beat two defenders on the right and crossed for the inrushing Kevin McLaughlin to fire just over from the edge of the area.The visiots then made it two nil before the interval when Bernard Gubbins advanced on the left and crossed for Breslin to nip in and flick the ball home from close range.The home side had the opening chance of the second period after Doherty’s corner was headed goalward by Ciaran Moore but Lynch gathered well.At the other end Kevin McDaid’s twenty five yards effort was well saved by Bovaird.On the hour mark the colts sealed the points when Breslin completed his hat trick after Liam Kelly had headed a corner off the line to Breslin who fired another overhead kick to the roof of the net.Greencastle did not lie down and LiamKelly fed brother Cathal to turn and shoot just wide before substitute Jamie McCormick released Doherty to cross for Cathal Kelly but his effort was saved by Lynch.On the break Cockhill almost added another when a Marty McDermott effort crashed back off the post to Breslin who somehow fired wide. In the latter stages McCormick, Noore and Cathal Kelly all had long range efforts which failed to trouble Lynch.
Rasheney ROVERS 3-2 Redcastle Res
In one of the shocks of the season Rasheneys third team threw their reserves a lifeline with this first defeat of the season on Redcastle. They took the lead in the 8th minute when an Anthony McEleney corner was headed home at the back post by Fergal Doherty.There was little in it then until the 34th minute when another corner from McEleney found Mark Gilmore and he headed home from close range.Redcastle upped the tempo and reduced the deficit before the break when Greg Breslin advanced and superbly lobbed home keeper Declan Grant from twenty five yards. Redcastle started the second period in the ascendancy and their pressure told on 64 minutes when they equalised with Aiden Cunningham converting low to the corner from fourteen yards after the home defence failed to clear.Play swung from end to end with chances for both.For the home side Eoin Sweeney fired over while Ryan Doherty shot wide after both being in good positions. At the other end both Breslin and Cunningham had efforts saved by Grant.With the game heading for a draw Sweeney was upended in the area and Fergal Doherty calmly converted the penalty to clinch the points.
Moville Youths 8-3 Illies Res
Illies had a great chance in the opening minutes after Charlie McLaughlin burst through the home defence but fired wide with only Lee McElroy in the home goal to beat.Moville replied and took the lead on 5 minutes after Oran McDermott fed namesake Kevin and he lobbed Graham Doherty from the edge of the area.When the Illies defence failed to clear a corner Colin Doherty poked home from close range before the same player beat two men before shooting high past Doherty to make it three nil.Illies replied and Liam Doherty had a half chance but failed to hit the target when well placed.When Derek McGeoghaghn was upended in the area Oran McDermott calmly slotted the spot kick to the bottom corner to make it four nil before Colin Doherty completed his hat trick when Kevin McDermott unselfishly squared the ball across for a tap in.The home side made it six nil before the break after Danny Harkin sped past two defenders and played a neat one two with Kevin McDermott to fire home from close range.They increased their lead after the break when McGeoghaghan beat two defenders on the edge of the area before slotting low past Doherty.Illies rallied and got a goal back when Gerard McDaid advanced from midfield to unleash a powerful effort to the top corner.But Moville showed no mercy and scored their eighth when Kevin McDermott converted a penalty awarded after Colin Doherty had been upended.A poor clearance by the home defence allowed Liam Doherty to score with a looping effort over McElroy before in the closing minutes the same player pounced on a loose ball to drive home from ten yards and complete the scoring.
