Original cast-iron water pipes which were causing water discolouration in Crolly have been replaced after a long campaign.
The moves has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein county councillor Marie Therese Gallagher.
“I am glad that these works are currently under-way. I attended a meeting in the Crolly village with residents and business’s affected by the discolouration of the water supply, at that time residents were unable to wash clothes and were buying drinking water in large quantities from shops.
“Donegal County Council undertook remedial works at that time to alleviate the problem, the works presently underway are a permanent solution to the water problem for local people.
“This issue has taken a long time to resolve, and the unacceptable levels of red-tape that apply to having pipe replacement works carried out has to be tackled within the department of environment.”
“There has been delays in the area while works have been ongoing, Donegal County Council expect works to be complete within a six week time frame which will enable them to lay this new infrastructure.
“There are more area’s within the water supply that need necessary replacement and I will continue to pursue this issue within the council,” said Colr Gallagher.
