February 7, 2013

gavel1A Co Tyrone man who was wanted in Donegal over sexual assault allegations has appeared in court today after being detained on a European arrest warrant.

Lorry driver Roy David Cochrane from the Loughmuck Road in Omagh appeared at Letterkenny District Court this afternoon after his extradition from the North.

He had been arrested by the PSNI on January 7th last on foot of a request by Gardai in Co Donegal.

The 42-year-old is charged with three offences of rape of a child under 17 years.

Gardai applied to the court in Letterkenny today for Cochrane to be remanded in custody.

However he was released on bail to appear back at the same court on March 4.

Cochrane’s lawyers had told an extradition hearing in Belfast last month that their client denied the charges.

His counsel Michael Boyd told Belfast Recorder’s Court that his client left Donegal to move back home before a complaint was made to gardai.

Mr Boyd added at the time that his client is very much prepared to face the allegations, which he denies.
