Clonmany Shamrocks 2-2 Moville Celtic
Moville got off to a dream start in the opening minute after a loose ball broke to PJ Barr and he fired a stunning twenty five yards effort to the top corner past keeper Michael Devlin.Devlin done well then on 14 minutes to claw away a Joe Doherty free which looked destined for the top corner.Clonmany grew into the game with John Grant finding Steve Harkin with a crossfield pass and when he crossed Jason Devlin saw his close range volley brilliantly saved by Sean McGuinness.Clonmany equalised on the stroke of half time when Jason Devlin saw his effort parried by McGuinness and with Marty Doherty ready to pounce he was pushed allowing keeper Michael Devlin to make the long run up the field to convert the penalty. On the stroke of half time Harkin fed Doherty on the edge of the area and he curled an effort just past the angle of the post and bar.Moville created the first chance of the second half when Shaun Doherty released Nigel McMonagle but he fired just past the far post as keeper Devlin advanced.Clonmany went very close on 56 minutes after Marty Doherty fed Harkin whose shot was parried by McGuinness before Alan Orr made an amazing goal line clearance.Play swung to the other end but Joe Doherty’s effort was saved by Devlin. Clonmany’s Paul Mclaughlin was inches away with an audacious attempted chip from half way which had McGuinness scrambling backwards before the same player beat a defender but curled his effort just wide.Moville thought they had won it when they had retaken the lead on 82 minutes after substitute Ryan McClenaghan had collected a clearance and his cross shot sailed over Devlin in the home goal. But Clonmany hit back and with three minutes remaining claimed a point when Marty Doherty despatched a free kick from the edge of the area past the wall and into the bottom corner.
Glengad United 2-1 Aileach FC
Played in windy conditions at the Crua the home side had the advantage in the opening period but struggled to take advantage. On 15 minutes Patrick McDermott flashed a free kick narrowly wide before five minutes later John McDaid fired a superb free kick past Conor Carlin from twenty yards on the half hour. They increased their lead just before the interval when another free kick by Paul McLaughlin found the net despite Carlin getting a hand to it.Aileach then got a goal back on the hour mark when Gavin Doherty headed past Martin McLaughlin following a corner.Aileach exerted a bit of pressure then and forced a few corners but the home home defence stood firm. With Aileach pushing the gaps started to appear and when McDaid released McLaughlin he fired over the top.McDaid then released John G McLaughlin but he too fired wide.
Carn FC 4-1 Culdaff FC
The home side started this game much the better with Adam Byrne firing over from twenty five yards before Gerard McEleney headed a Matthew Byrne corner over the top. They took the lead on 15 minutes after a Michael Byrne through ball deflected off a defender into the path of Shane Doherty who fired low past Darragh McLaughlin from sixteen yards.Culdaff replied and Brian McGonigle headed over from a corner before at the other end Cathal Doherty fired wide when well placed.Carn increased their lead on 33 minutes when Shane Doherty fed Daniel McLaughlin to beat two defenders before he drilled past McLaughlin from fifteen yards.Culdaff upped the tempo before the break with Brendan McLaughlin shooting wide from a good position before he fed Conor O Brien but his low effort was well saved by Gerard Crossan. They started the second period well and reduced the deficit on 52 minutes when Mclaughlin’s inswinging free came off a defender past Crossan. But Carn hit back within minutes and after Michael Byrne threaded a ball through for McGonagle, and the home defence appealing in vain for offside, he ran clear to lob the advancing McLaughlin.Another Mclaughlin free broke to O Brien but he fired narrowly wide from twenty yards before Carn got a fourth on 65 minutes when Shane Doherty fed McGonagle and he fired low to the net from sixteen yards. Both substitute Matthew McLaughlin and Michael Byrne were off target with late efforts.
