DONEGAL is set to get its own new radio station, Donegal Daily can reveal.
Finn FM starts broadcasting on February 2 on 95.8FM and aims to “add variety to the airwaves not currently offered by the limited number of stations in the county.”
It will be a community station aimed at the Finn Valley but listeners will be able to pick up the new station in Letterkenny and Donegal Town.
The key players in the radio station bid have been local man Patrick Burns and his colleague James Bonner.
Patrick is an Eircom Employee, a radio Ham enthusiast and has been involved in radio in the past and has experience in broadcasting.
James Bonner has his own electronics business and provides the technical and business expertise this combination and experience has resulted in this project.
Finn Valley Radio is Located at the Cpi centre Castlefin and will be the station’s headquarters.
“Local business have pledged their strong support and sponsorship to the project,” said Patrick.
“The area is in for an exciting treat as this new station offers so much variety not offered by the limited number of stations available in the county.
“A tough training and selection programme is in store for the dozens of volunteers who have come forward to join this development in local radio which will guarantee the people of the area will have the best station on offer in the county.
“It really will be the People’s Station.”
The locally owned station hits the airwaves on Saturday 2nd Feb and Sunday Feb 3 from 8am until 1am.
Although based in Finn Valley it’s expected the station will be picked up across a wide area of east, north and south Donegal – including Letterkenny and Donegal Town.
