SuperHoop: Alan Doherty with some Celtic fans from the Big Apple

ALAN Doherty has been through more than most in his life, with a series of operations.

But there’s no happier many in life – driven on by his love of sport and all things Glasgow Celtic and Donegal.

So you could say he’s one of Jim McGuinness’s biggest fans.

He’s a very hoopy man today too after Celtic’s 4-0 win over Dundee United.

Here Alan tells us about his Donegal.

Where’s your favourite place in the county?

In Donegal my favourite place would be: Inishowen / Bundoran because of the scenery and breath taking views around.

If you could change one thing about Donegal what would it be?

It would have to be the pot holes and signage on some of the roads (put English translation beside the gaelige translations around the Gaeltacht)

Who is the one person in Donegal that you look up to and why?

I’d look up to Daniel O’Donnell because he has done so so much for himself and other people in the world. He takes a lot of time to help people in need. He even helped Majella too when she was going through a bad time in her life..

Daniel O’Donnell or Packie Bonner?

It’d have to be our wee Daniel.

What has been Donegal’s proudest moment in recent years?

The All-Ireland final win on September 23rd 2012.

What was Donegal’s saddest moment?

The loss of Bridie Gallagher. May she R.I.P.

What is your favourite Donegal-made product?

Possibly items from Fruit of the Loom factory in Buncrana before it closed.

Who is Donegal’s greatest ambassador around the world and why?

Daniel O’Donnell because of same reason above.

Who is your favourite Donegal sportsperson of all time?

Michael Murphy.

What is your favourite Donegal restaurant?

Not sure – so many to choose from.

Donegal’s golden eagles or basking sharks?

Golden Eagles.

Your nomination for Donegal’s most stylish person?

Mr Patrick Gildea (Glasgwegian Celtic mad fan) or John Porter (Buncrana).

What is your favourite Donegal saying or expression?

Aye surely hi or Keep her lit!.

Will Donegal win the All Ireland this year?

We Hope so. It’ll be a hard battle for them to retain Ulster and Sam in 2013.

Is there anything that really annoys you about Donegal or its people?

No

If you had a million euro to spend on improving something what would it be?

It would have to be the roads.
