Successful Year at Portsalon Golf Club
There was a large turnout at Portsalon Golf Club for the club’s AGM which was held on Friday night last. On calling the meeting to order the club President Wm Mc Cleary asked all the members present to observe a minutes silence in memory of all the members and friends who passed away during the year. On the financial side the treasurer Hugh Mc Ginley said the club had another good year and he thanked everyone for their contribution during the year. He thanked our very generous sponsors throughout the year and said without their help it would have a much harder year He encouraged the members to support our sponsors whenever possible The outgoing Captain D P Logue in his review of the past year said that he wished to thank the members for appointing him to act as their Captain for 2012 an honour that he will not forget and said that at all times he strived to represent the club to the best of his ability. He said that over the year lot of work has gone into the development of the course and he said that we were indeed honoured and privileged to have the services of Paul Mc Ginley and his team. He thanked both Paul and his team for all the time spent to enhance Portsalon Golf Course. He congratulated Paul Mc Ginley on his appointment as Ryder Cup Captain. He thanked his fellow council members for all their dedicated hard work and support to him throughout the year and assured them and the members of his continued support in the years ahead. He thanked the Greens staff under the leadership of John Shields who over the year has continued to make improvements to the course. He said one of his goals during his term as captain was to see the course advance in the top 100 courses and he congratulated all concerned as we had now entered the top 25 in the Golf Digest top 100 courses. He thanked the office staff of Cathal Toland, and Carina,Merisa, Niamh Mc Ginley and Grace Shields for all their hard work and friendliness shown to both members and visitors to the club. He thanked the local press for all their coverage during the year. He congratulated everyone who contributed to the success of Portsalon Golf Club in 2012. He thanked the Lady Captain Noreen Mc Conigley and the ladies committee for all their help and assistance. He thanked all the various team captains and team members who represented Portsalon Golf Club throughout the year. He congratulated near neighbours Rosapenna golf club who had an outstanding year in the various team events.He thanked Sean Mc Gettigan and his staff who looked after the needs of the golfers and provided magnificent food throughout the year. He paid a special thanks to all the clubs sponsors who without their generosity it would have been a very difficult year. He thanked his wife Rosanne for all her help and encouragement during the year and wished the incoming captain and Portsalon Golf Club every success in the year ahead. He then proposed Joe Harkin as the incoming Captain of Portsalon Golf Club for 2013. In taking up the ‘’Black Jacket’’ Joe thanked D P Logue for all his work for Portsalon Golf Club and indeed set him a very high standard for him to follow. He said that it was indeed an honour for him to be appointed Captain of Portsalon Golf Club. He recalled his first outing in golf where the late Patrick Loughrey invited him to be his caddy an experience he said would not be forgotten. He wished the incoming President Kathleen Mc Cormick and the incoming Lady Captain Deirdre Hensey success in their terms as Club President and Lady Captain. He wished all the members a good golfing year and encouraged all to do their part in the promotion of Portsalon Golf Club during 2013.The Captain then proposed Dermott Boyce for the position as vice captain, this appointment was ratified. On the night there were three council positions up for election and following was elected Donal Callaghan, Willie Walsh, Paul Armstrong, The following officers were elected Secretary Peter Doherty, Treasurer Hugh Mc Ginley. Members should note that the membership fee structure for 2013 remains at €480, notices will be issued to all members over the next few days and prompt payment would be appreciated.
Club President
The outgoing President Wm Mc Cleary thanked the members for their support on his election in 2011 and said that he had represent the club at various functions during his two years term of office, however over the past few months he was unavailable. He said it was indeed his privilege and an honour to be President of this great club. Willie then proposed that Kathleen Mc Cormick be the incoming President of Portsalon Golf Club for the next two year term. The proposal was ratified by all members present. On accepting the position as club President Kathleen congratulated the outgoing President Willie Mc Cleary for his tenure as President of Portsalon Golf Club . Kathleen said that on looking back she recalled her first introduction to golf at Portsalon Golf Club and her appointment as Lady Captain in 1986 and during the centenary year celebrations in 1991. She said it was indeed her honour and a privilege to become the first lady to hold the Presidency of Portsalon Golf Club, She thanked the outgoing President Wm Mc Cleary and the council for her nomination and the Portsalon Golf Club members for electing her as their President for the next two years. Kathleen said that she would do her best to uphold the tradition of Portsalon Golf Club during her term in office.

Plans are in place for this seasons Captains & Presidents drive in of Joe Harkin, lady captain Deirdre Hensey and club President Kathleen Mc Cormick and will take place on Sunday 10TH February
Events
On Saturday 27th January an open gents open competition. On Sunday 28th it’s a member’s competition and on Wednesday 30. rd a gents open stableford competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.
Gaeltacht League
The next outing for the Gaeltacht League team will take place on Saturday 26thJanuary with a home tie against Dunfanaghy Golf Club.The fisrt tee is reserved from 10 am to 11.05 am.

Protect Your Course.
Members are encouraged to take a Divot Bag with them on their golfing round. If each member replaced their own divot and one other following each shot. Divot bags are available on entry to the first tee box and also at the 5th & 12th tee boxes.. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance. Every little helps.
Results
Due to the poor weather conditions which prevailed on Saturday the Portsalon Winter Links competition was cancelled. On Sunday it was a cold but dry day and the picturesque scene with Knockall covered in a white blanket of snow was indeed beautiful. The winner of the members competition was Noel Nicholl (16) 37 points, runner up Sean Mc Cormack (18) 35 points, gross Eamon mc Dermott (3) 29 points 3rd Johnnie Deeney (6) 35 points. The CSS was 34 points non counting. There was a small entry in open competition on Wednesday again due to the weather and the winner was John Strain (21) 37 points. The CSS was 34 points.
