Staff at Donegal’s County Museum believe a plaque dedicated to a First World War hero has been stolen.
Staff at the Letterkenny museum are appealing for information on the bronze First World War memorial dedicated to war hero Captain James Douglas Gaussen MacNeese which was located at the Redcastle Church of Ireland.
Staff believe the plaque in memory of Captain Gaussen MacNeese, who was killed in the Battle of the Somme in 1916, may have been taken for its scrap value.
Assistant curator Caroline Carr appealed for anyone who knew about the whereabouts of the plaque to contact them.
“We do believe the plaque was removed deliberately.
“We would appeal to anybody who knows of its whereabouts to contact us,” she said.
