Sea Rovers 2-3 Culdaff Res
Reversed to Culdaff rovers almost got their first points of the season but succumbed to two goals in the last five minutes.Rovers topok the lead on 3 minutes after Michael McColgan fed Shane Diver on the right hand side of the area and from sixteen yards he fired a superb chip over Stephen Gray in the home goal.Culdaff replied and got back on terms on 11 minutes when Paddy McColgan’s corner was flicked home by the head of Michael McLaughlin at the near post.Culdaff then went close on 33 minutes when Declan Noone unleashed a twenty five yards effort which flew just past Dean Mclaughlin’s post.Rovers started the second period well and twice in the opening five minutes Diver had efforts well saved by Gray in the Culdaff goal.Culdaff replied and following a corner Michael Mclaughlin headed over when unmarked. Rovers then forced a corner and when Gray punched clear the ball was swept home by Gavin Loftus from ten yards to regain the lead.McColgan then fired over for Culdaff before at the other end a powerful Gerard Crossan free kick was well tipped over by Gray.Culdaff spurned a great chance after a McColgan free fell to substitute Noel Mclaughlin but he steered the ball wide from six yards.Rovers then spurned a good chance to increase their lead after a deep corner fell to Michael McColgan who some how failed to connect at the back post.Culdaff drove forward in the last ten minutes and when a free kick broke to Martin McGrenaghan he blazed wide from point blank range.They got back on terms when after a scramble developed from a corner substitute Terence McLaughlin bundled the ball home at the second attempt.Then on the stroke of full time a McColgan corner found McGrenaghan and he powered a tremendous header to the top corner.

Switched to lakeside Aileach took full advantage and started the game much the better.They got a dream start on 3 minutes when Liam Burke collected a poor clearance a drilled a shot in which Michael McLaughlin got a hand to but could not prevent trickling over the line.On 10 minutes Georgie Kelly converted a penalty awarded after Burke was upended to double the home side’s lead.Glengad replied and when Gary Kelly released Niall McLaughlin with a ball over the top he fired just wide.Aileach responded with Burke breaking clear to shoot past McLaughlin but also just past the post.The visitors then had two chances but firstly Gary Kelly when clear fired straight at David McGeady before the same player was denied by a superb James Wallce tackle.On the stroke of half time Aileach made it three nil when Stephen Doherty capitalised on a defensive error to blast to the roof of the net.Aileach started the second half well with Wallace seeing a volley from a short corner saved by the legs of McLaughlin before George Kelly had an effort clip the outside of the post.Glengad raised the tempo and Niall Mclaughlin twice headed over when well placed within minutes of each other.They got a consolation on 87 minutes when Stephen Doherty released Gary Kelly and he drilled the ball low under the advancing McGeady.
