A GARDA operation to nab burglars was a massive success this morning after a man was held in Co Donegal.
Gardaí at Milford say they are investigating a burglary which occurred at approximately 3.45am this morning in Kilmacrennan.
A man entered the home of a 69 year old woman who was alone in the house at the time.
He forced his way into her bedroom threatened her and demanded cash.
The raider fled the scene after taking a handbag.
The pensioner was unhurt but chased the suspect with a hatchet.
A 24 year old man was arrested a short time later in connection with this incident and is currently detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Local people expressed delight at the arrest, which came 8kms from where three suspects were detained on Tuesday.
The Garda operation came as security is being stepped up in rural areas and was a direct result of police work.
“The woman was unhurt but she is very shaken,” said one local man today.
“She was able to call Gardai and they reacted extremely quickly, identified a suspect right away and arrested him.”
