SINN FEIN TO RAISE DONEGAL ATTACKS ON ELDERLY IN DAIL TODAY

Donegal Sinn Féin TDs Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Pearse Doherty will raise the recent wave of attacks across the county against the elderly directly with the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter later today in the Dáil.Padraig MacLochlainn

The two local Deputies said they will demand that Minister Shatter reassures the people of Donegal that Gardaí have the necessary resources to combat these criminal gangs.

They will also soon meet with Assistant Garda Commissioner Kieran Kenny to hear at first hand what is being done.

They said “The recent wave of attacks across the county have left elderly people terrified in their homes. The scale of this vicious criminality is now at crisis level and demands a robust response from Minister Alan Shatter and Garda management.

“We know from Gardaí on the ground in Donegal that they are seriously concerned about cuts to garda numbers and vehicles. The people of Donegal need to know that their police service is fully equipped to combat crime and defend the communities they serve”.

“Minister Alan Shatter’s comments on Highland Radio yesterday demonstrated once again a government that is out of touch. There is now a crisis in Donegal that demands real leadership and no amount of spin will talk it away.

“We will hold the Minister to account in the Dáil later today and bring the reality and impact of this criminality in Donegal directly to him”
