Carn Res 2-4 Clonmany Res
The home side started well and opened the scoring on 7 minutes when a quick free by Niall McLaughlin found Matthew McLaughlin to fire low to the corner from fifteen yards.Clonmany responded well and forced seven or eight corners but the Carn defence dealt capably with them. The visitors did level things on the half hour when Niall McLaughlin broek on the left and crossed for Conor Doherty’s looping header to sail over JJ Doherty in the home goal.Within minutes they had taken the lead when Aiden Doherty saw his shot from the edge of the area take a wicked deflection on its way to the net. Carn started the second period well and got back on terms on the hour when McLaughlin’s cross broke to Matthew Doherty and he fired home from eight yards. But Clonmany retook the lead again after Mclaughlin broke on the left and crossed for Conor Doherty to squeeze the ball home despite the best efforts of James McCloskey. They sealed the tie late on when McLaughlin broke again on the left and crossed for Aiden Doherty to slot home at the back post.
Glengad maintained their position at the top of the table with this facile victory over a Rovers side who look destined for the drop at this stage. The visitors opened the scoring on seven minutes when Gary Kelly crossed for Michael Gallagher to fire past Dean McLaughlin from close range. They doubled their lead midway through the half after Kelly again found space to cross for Brian Doherty to fire home from ten yards. Rovers mounted a stern defensive rearguard to keep the score at two until the break.Glengad upped the tempo on 56 minutes and added a third after Stephen Mclaughlin converted a penalty awarded for handball. Within two minutes a defensive error allowed Gary Kelly to run clear and slot past McLaughlin from ten yards.Kelly then latched onto a long ball to finish well from twelve yards before the same player completed his hat trick when he headed home a Seamus Doherty cross on 68 minutes. They completed the scoring late on after Michael Doherty’s long range effort deceived keeper McLaughlin to complete a miserable day for Rovers.
Cockhill started this game the better and after a corner both Michael Coyle and Martin Bradley had efforts cleared off the line. Ryan Duffy then went close with a twenty yards effort which clipped the outside of the post.It was no surprise whenCockhill opened the scoring after Declan Kearney’s free kick fell to Martin Bradley who fires low past George Houten from eight yards.Culdaff upped the tempo and got back on terms on 32 minutes after Michael McLaughlin fed David O Connor and he lifted the ball over the advancing Lee McCarron in the visitors goal.Cockhill reply with Houten denying Duffy and then saving the rebound from Jim McDaid. On the stroke of half time Cockhill regained the lead when Duffy beat the offside trap to race clear and slot past Houten from twelve yards.Duffy had the first effort of the second period when he fired just wide from twenty yards before the home side came well into the game. Both Declan Noone and Barry Fitzpatrick had efforts in succession well saved by McCarron .On 54 minutes McCarron made a brilliant double save when he denied Michael McLaughlin before recovering to save William Hutchinson’s follow up.Cockhill then broke on 62 minutes with Coyle clear of the home defence but he blazed over.On 80 minutes the visitors defence misjudge a high ball and when O Connor challenges keeper McCarron it was deemed to be a foul and all were astounded when O Connor was red carded for what seemed an innocuous challenge. Play swung to the other end and when Houten advanced to collect Ryan Duffy nipped in to poke the ball home.
This was an excellent game between two well matched sides which could have gone either way. After an even opening period Aileach opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Ruairi Bradley’s corner was punched out by Brian Lynch to Liam Burke who slammed the ball to the bottom corner from the edge of the area. But the home side were on terms within minutes when John McCloskey flicked on a corner for Shaun McIvor to slot home from close range. They went close then when a dipping shot from Paul Hegarty just cleared the bar.The point took the lead on the half hour when McCloskey beat three men in a mazy run and fed Seannan McColgan who drew keeper McGeady before slotting low to the corner.Aileach responded well and levelled before the break when Burke broke from midfield and squared for Georgie Kelly to fire low to the corner from the edge of the area. The game tightened up considerably in the second period and on the hour mark Fergal Buchanan fed McCloskey but he fired to the side netting. On 71 minutes Burke’s superb shot on the run brought a brilliant tip over save from Lynch and from the corner Darren Gallagher headed over. The visitors then struck for the winner on 80 minutes after James Wallace advanced on the right and crossed to the back post where Bradley was on hand to slot home from eight yards.
