A big crowd turned out last Saturday for the annual Christmas hamper competition, held in ideal weather conditions, amazing for the middle of winter. Getting straight down to business of the prizewinners, the only thing that can be said about the winning score is that it was unbeatable. Although the annual hamper always throws up big scores on the day, James Lynch’s 51 pts will take a long time to beat, leaving the rest of the field chasing second spot !Kerrykeel’s Patrick Kelly dusted off the cobwebs to bring out his A game, and record an equally impressive 47 points to claim second place, followed one shot back on 46 by Paul Murray, and Shaun Duffy coming 4th with 44. The gross went to Arthur Morisson, with the nines going to Pat McNulty and Martin O’Reilly, longest drive was won by Ivan Clifford, and nearest the pin went to Sidney Anderson. Congratulations to all participants, and to Kevin, Eamonn, Gerry and anyone else involved in the organising of the day. Sunday was the last chance to catch the bird, and as with most weeks, the battle went right down to the wire. Despite all the planning of strategy by some of the losing teams, the trio of Damian Gallagher(again), Paul Murray and Kevin Tinney came up with the winning score of 8 under par to claim victory on the day, and leave the rest of the field with hard luck stories of near misses, and the ones that got away !Next Sunday the scramble winners will take home something to quench their thirst, and help wash down the festive fowl, same time as usual !
