IT’S a picture which will evoke immense pride in those who knew him, and sadness too.
GAA star Paddy McGrath took the Sam Maguire to see another Maguire – the late Tomás Maguire.
The 24-year-old Ardara man died in an accident in Western Australia in June.
A superb footballer himself, the gregarious and handsome Donegal man had been a valued member of the Donegal Boston GAA family.
Tomás’s sister Tara said the family were delighted with McGrath’s gesture.
“We all appreciated it very much that Paddy took the time to come and take Sam to Tomás’s grave,” said Tara.
“We know Tomás himself would have loved it.”
He certainly would have; a superb player with both Ardara and Donegal Boston.
He started off his football career as a key member of the 1996/97 Under-10 teams that went on to win County League and Championships at Under-12, Under-14 ,16 and Minor (league).
He went on to win a call-up to the senior Donegal team in 2011.
