While it stayed dry for most of the weekly scramble last Sunday, a strenghtening wind did make iron selection a bit tricky for most of the turkey hunters. When the draw was made for partners, some teams that looked promising on paper, tried to make adjustments to their swings to allow for the conditions, but some ended up with a swing that resembled an octopus falling from a tree. No such problems for the foursome of Damian Gallagher(again!), Sidney Anderson, Kevin Toland and Patrick Kelly, who got the better of the tricky course conditions and return a winning score of nine under par. Well done to all, and the other poor souls still hunting for the Christmas fowl, some of whom just about managed to finish on the same score as they started, and were very happy to get back level! Next Saturday it’s every man for himself as we stage the annual Christmas hamper, when scoring on the shortened winter course normally gets well into the forties, the same direction a lot of the players are heading too ! Names should be in to the clubhouse by 10.30 sat morning for a shotgun start at 11 sharp, followed by the usual Sunday morning scramble.
