Representatives of Finn Harps and the Donegal Sports Partnership have congratulated St. Eunan’s National School in Raphoe after the school was asked to take part in the new ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ DVD.
The new DVD, which will be used as an educational resource for schools will feature a host of Irish Sports stars including Irish internationals Seamus Coleman and Sean St Ledger, Rihanna Jarrett of Ireland’s U19 women’s soccer team, Dublin goalkeeper Cliodhna O’Connor and Gaelic Players Association Chief Executive Dessie Farrell.
Following their tremendous work over the past three years in the creative competition hosted by Show Racism the Red Card in Ireland, St Eunan’s NS has been asked to also take part in the new DVD, becoming the first primary school in the country to do so.
St Eunan’s have twice in the past three years scooped the overall award in creative competition with a fantastic comic the first year and an amazing mural last year that saw them gather hundreds of signatures in support of the campaign to show Racism the Red Card.
In between the school also produced an amazing news-style documentary that was highly commended and that year were invited to perform their rap at the awards ceremony in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
John Campbell, the Finn Harps Schools Programme Co-Ordinator who has worked with closely with St Eunan’s on the Show Racism the Red Card programme, said the news was fantastic, not alone for the school, but for the whole county.
“This DVD will be seen in schools all over Ireland and over the next three years thousands of students and teachers will get to hear of the fantastic work that St Eunan’s has already done in spreading the anti-racism message,” John said.
He added that Finn Harps were delighted to be associated with the school through this programme and he extended congratulations to the Principal Hugo Lafferty and class teacher Anita McMonagle.
Meanwhile Myles Sweeney of Donegal Sports Partnership has also expressed his delight at the news that students from St Eunan’s NS will travel to Dublin this week for filming for the new DVD.
“The Show Racism the Red Card programme is a fantastic programme to highlight that not just in Sport but as a society we need to acknowledge and celebrate diversity and to promote inclusiveness. I am aware of the great work that St Eunan’s NS have done through the programme and am glad that other schools in the county have taken part as well.”
He concluded: “Through initiatives like this we can promote a really positive message and it is great that a school from Donegal is being acknowledged for their terrific role as a real driving force in spreading that message. We extend our congratulations to the school for the wonderful recognition of their great work.”
