When the winning numbers in the Letterkenny Gaels G.A.A. Club Lotto were checked last weekend, the winner turned out to be the local Society of St Vincent de Paul!
Some generous punter had decided, when filling out their entry, to donate the winnings to the local charitable organisation by simply signing their name to the lotto slip.
The winning envelope contained no other information to assist the club in identifying the mystery donor!
The winning numbers 3, 12, 16 & 23 were drawn by the Club Committee on Monday night last and now the local Charity stands to receive a cheque for €1,450 which was presented to them last night.
The club said it is delighted to be associated with this timely boost for the local St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference of St. Thérèse.
Dan Harnett, Letterkenny Gaels GAA Club Chairman said: “As a voluntary organisation we rely on the generosity of people in order to be in a position to help the youth of Letterkenny.
“We’re very happy on this occasion to also assist the St. Vincent de Paul Society, who also do such great work in our community. It says much for the person who bought the ticket that they would put the less fortunate in our society before themselves. It’s a real Christmas story!”
