BUNDORAN Town Councillor Diarmaid Doherty
Having been contacted by a large number of worried pensioners whose medical cards are currently being reviewed, Sinn Féin Town Councillor Diarmaid Doherty is asking people with elderly relatives, neighbours or friends to be aware of the stress these reviews are causing and to please make sure that everyone is aware of their entitlements.
Councillor Doherty said that the following are the base income thresholds to qualify for a medical card.
A Single person under 66 years of age can earn €184 per week.
A Couple under 66 years of age can earn €266.50 per week,
A Single person aged 66 to 69 can earn €201.50 per week
A Couple aged 66 to 69 can earn €298.00 per week
Single person aged 70+ can earn €700 per week
And a Couple aged 70+ can earn up to €1400.00 per week.
As there are other factors that can increase your income threshold for a medical card, Councillor Doherty would recommend people obtain further information by phoning Citizens Information on 076~1074000 or by going to www.citizensinformation.ie.
