Last Sunday week, as all the poor unfortunate turkey chasers who haven’t managed to trap the bird yet looked on, three golfers managed to secure their second win of the season, at least ! Seamus Gallagher, Paddy Lynch and Shaun Duffy racked up eight birdies, with no dropped shots, to claim victory on the day. The number of reported incidents in their round are too numerous to list, so it’s suffice to say they all did their part in their deserved win. A completely different picture evolved last Sunday, as a heavy mist decended on the wee course from early morning. Members and visitors alike waited patiently to see if the mist was going to clear, with varying opinions from budding amateur weather forecasters, and even a phone call to a certain postman in the Glenfin area to find out if players were going to get the oportunity to play. At about 12.30 it was decided to let the participants loose on the course, and within 20 minutes the sun won the battle and broke through the mist, revealing previously hidden greens, and golfers. But the increase in visibility was short-lived, and the mist descended again, leaving a lot of ‘blind’ shots off the tee. As some players considered the conditions too dangerous to continue, debate got up as to whether the competition should continue, but some brave souls carried on to finish their round. At the time of writing it is unclear whether the competition was actually called off, or allowed to continue, so we’ll have to wait for further news on that. In the meantime, the plan is to give it another go next Sunday at the usual 11.45 time for entry, when hopefully we will know the outcome of last Sunday’s confusion !
