DONEGAL County Council and AA Roadwatch have issued new appeals to motorists to slow down this evening as a thick blanket of fog and ice covers most of Co Donegal.
“Fog is an issue in many parts of Co.Donegal,” said an AA Ireland spokesman.
“This fog has been lingering all day and Gardai are advising motorists to ensure you have your lights on. Areas affected are Letterkenny, Ballybofey, Stranorlar and Raphoe.”
Temperatures will drop to -4C in many inland areas of the county this evening.
Meanwhile Gardai have renewed their appeal for witnesses to a serious injury collision which occurred at Coneyburrow Road, Lifford, last night.
At approximately 7.15pm a female pedestrian aged in her 40s was seriously injured when she was struck by a motor car. She was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry. The occupants of the car were not injured.
The road remained closed this morning pending a technical examination and diversions are in place, re-opening again at lunchtime.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lifford Garda Station 074-9141000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
