The official opening of the new wing of Letterkenny General Hospital has been cancelled, Donegal Daily has learned.
The cutting of the ribbon of the €22 million extension was due to be undertaken by Minister for Health James Reilly tomorrow (Thurs).
Preparations had been made at the hospital but only management had been made aware of the visit for security reasons.
However management were told yesterday that the Minister had been forced to cancel the visit because of a prior engagement.
A hospital source told Donegal Daily “A lot of staff didn’t know anything about it at all.
“However an email was sent to management yesterday saying that the planned visit by Minister Reilly opening the extension had been cancelled.”
Minister Reilly does have an engagement in Sligo tomorrow but will not visit Donegal.
No new date has yet been set for the official opening.
