A woman who was viciously beaten and sexually assaulted by her former partner for 90 minutes is to appeal the leniency of the sentence.
Danielle Kerrigan, 21, was subjected to a brutal ordeal which left her black and blue from head to toe.
Her attacker, Eamon Harkin, 24, the father of her young son, received 240 hours community service after pleading guilty to the attack at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Now Ms Kerrigan, from Convoy, wants the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal the sentence.
Ms Kerrigan said she is fearful Harkin will strike again and attack another woman.
“I am fearful he will do it to another woman. Sometimes, I think it was a waste of time going to court because we didn’t get the justice we deserved.
“But if my story helps one woman to come forward, then it will all have been worthwhile.
“I was scared of him and I was scared of how people would react to me when I told them what he had doe to me,” said the brave young mother.
Donegal Daily first broke the story of the brutal attack on Ms Kerrigan.
Harkin, from St Eunan’s Terrace in Raphoe, attacked Danielle so viciously that he left his footprint on her leg.
He only stopped beating her to get a drink of water from the couple’s former home.
Ms Kerrigan has now revealed she has installed CCTV at her home because she still fears what Harkin is capable of.
