To celebrate the centenary of Letterkenny Golf Club, Declan O’Carroll will be launching his book “Letterkenny Golf Club – The Centenary Years 1913 – 2012 ” on Thursday 6th December. Only an author can truly understand the level of commitment and work it takes to produce a literary work of this nature.
Over two years Declan compiled the history of the club and a photographic history with contributions from many people locally and further afield. You have already been issued an invitation to the launch at which, if you have not already pre-ordered a signed copy of the book, copies will be available to purchase for €25 for the hard back and €15 for the paper back. There will be a mulled wine reception on arrival and a trip down memory lane guaranteed.
Celine Bradley will be tucking into her turkey this year after winning Turkey no. 14 with a very respectable score of 21 points. Marian O’Sullivan has added another bottle of wine to her arsenal with runner up 20 points on the front 9. One is hoping Marian does not forget her friends, when she hosts her wine and roses party over Christmas. Then again, Celine not satisfied with the turkey, went for the jugular in Turkey no 15 and came home with a bottle of wine to share with Mark. It is not known at time of going to print, what will happen the chocolates. That came courtesy of runner up to Eileen Keating who scored an excellent 18 points on the back 9 in pretty chilly weather to secure her Christmas dinner. Turkey and hamper competitions will continue to run until the Christmas party on 15th Dec. when presentations will be made.
The one day Christmas Hamper Competition, not to be confused with the weekend running hamper competitions, will be played on Saturday 24th. There is a timesheet in operation and you really need to be out by midday if you want to get completed before light fades.
The Ladies Club Annual General Meeting takes place on Thursday 29th November at 8pm. All outstanding prizes such as Bronze and Silver medals, Golf of the Year ( I wonder who that might be?) will be made. Of course we will also have our new Lady Captain take office on that night.
On that note, may I express on behalf of the Ladies Club our warmest congratulations to Lady Captain Angela Kilgallen for an outstanding year 2012. Angela has represented the Ladies Club very well both at home and while visiting clubs throughout the year and her commitment to the position is reflected in the high esteem in which she is held, by all members of the club. Personally, I wish to thank Angela for inviting me to act as the Ladies Club P.R.O. Hopefully, everyone has had their news and results included in my weekly reports and I wish to extend my appreciation to the media for always making space to publish our news. I wish the new Ladies Club P.R.O. for 2013 good wishes and happy reporting.
