DONEGAL Gardai are searching for a bogus charity collector dressed in a Santa Claus suit.
The money-grabbing crook targeted punters in pubs in Bundoran – claiming he was collecting cash for the RNLI.
But this particular Santa was looking to line his own pockets.
An RNLI spokesman revealed: “Gardai were alerted in Bundoran on Sunday to a man wearing a Santa suit claiming to be collecting money for the local RNLI.
“He called to a premises in the West End of the town on Sunday evening around 6.30pm.
“While Bundoran RNLI have advised that while they will be shortly selling tickets for their upcoming dinner dance, there are currently no collections operating in the area.
“We would ask anyone suspected of collecting money fraudulently on behalf of the organisation should be reported to the Gardai.”
Gardai in Ballyshannon are investigating the incident.
“Someone out there will know who this is,” said one local Garda.
“Bogus charity collectors are thieves who are stealing money from excellent organisations like the RNLI.”
