The report, which Minister Reilly received this week, was established to examine the issues regarding the European Court of Justice’s judgement on A, B and C v Ireland and has made recommendations based on the judgment that the State failed to implement existing rights to lawful abortion where a mother’s life is at risk.
“Sadly, we now know what the consequences for failing to implement existing rights are and I am calling on the Minister to publish this report immediately and end this risk right now. There has already been a 20 year delay, let’s not leave this issue on the shelf any longer.
“It is not good enough that the Minister has given it a ‘quick glance’ and will then bring it to Cabinet after he gets a chance to look at it properly. A life has been lost because of this legal uncertainty and there needs to be action now so that this tragedy is never repeated.”
