GRANDPARENTS TO ATTEND MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TRAGIC STORM BOYS

The heartbroken grandparents of two boys killed during Hurricane Sandy in the US will lead mourners during a memorial service for them in Portnoo tomorrow.

Pat and Fay Moore from Loughfad, Portnoo, will attend the service at St Conal’s Church in Kilclooney at 11am.

Hundreds of people are to turn up for the service to remember brothers Connor, 4 and Brandon, 2, who were swept away from their mother Glenda’s arms near Staten Island.

The boys’ bodies were found three days later in marshland.

Their Donegal-born father Damien, 39, was out helping other victims of the storm when his sons disappeared.

The boys grandparents Pat and Fay are too elderly to make the journey to America but the service has been arranged to coincide with the boys funeral.

Local priest Fr Philip Daly said the community in Portnoo has rallied to be by the sides of the Moore family since the awful tragedy.

“Pat and Fay could not get to America for various reasons but we thought we needed to mark the occasion in some way and hopefully this will help comfort them.

“All we can do for them is to be here for them and to support them as best we can at this trying time,” he said.
