A former soldier has been jailed for a year after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a young boy more than 30 years ago.
The man, who is from Inishowen, cannot be named for legal reasons.
He was charged with assaulting the boy a number of times at a quarry in Donegal in the summer of 1979.
The man, who is in his 50s, was previous found guilty of two out of five charges of indecent assault at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
He appeared in court again yesterday (WED) to be sentenced by Judge John O’Hagan.
The court heard the accused was suffering from a number of medical complaints including asthma and hyper-tension.
He was accompanied by some of his family.
Judge O’Hagan said he had seriously considered imposing a suspended sentence and pointed to the fact that the charges were 30 years ago although were still in the mind of the victim.
He sentenced the man to one year in prison for each charge to run concurrently but suspended the last three months of the sentence.
