Turkey number 6 will be travelling to the Daly home in style, as not only did Eileen score a nice 22 points to win it, but she also, along with her husband Tommy, won the car in the Credit Union Draw! Well done and happy and safe motoring. Bridie Gildea, another lady in form these days with a turkey already on the table, came runner up with 22 points.
Speaking of Bridies good form, she was also the victor in Section 2 of the Singles Matchplay against Cynthia Fuery. The match went all the way to the 18th and Cynthia ate into Bridies lead to take it down to the last. But Bridie, aka the Dove, held on to win the match. Well done to both ladies.
Turkey number 7 was won by Marian Keating who took 21 points in the back 9. Playing very steady and good golf Marian has been beaten on BOT’s of late, so it’s nice to see the bird plucked for the Keating house. The runner up spot went to none other than Marian O’Sullivan with 20 points, a lady who is already weighed down by chocolates and wine. No doubt a good house to visit over the Christmas holidays.
It is always nice to see the Lady Captain win and Turkey number 8 will be enjoyed by Angela Kilgallen who scored 19 points. Eileen Daly hopefully will have some room in the new car for the chocolates and wine she won as runner up with 19 points.
Turkey competitions will continue up until the Christmas party week as will the Hamper competitions. Remember, 9 hole turkey competitions may be played any time during the week and hampers are 18 holes over weekends only. An aggregate of your three best cards is required for the hamper.
The Christmas hamper competition is separate of course and will be played on Nov. 24th. The singles matchplay prize winners will be presented on the night of the Ladies Club AGM on the 29th Nov.
25 card nights continue in the club house on Wed nights at 8pm. You can just turn up on the night. Visitors may sign the visitors book. Bridge with Jimmy O’Donnell is on Thurs nights at 8pm. Hugh McClaffertys quiz and putting nights start in the clubhouse on Fri 2nd Nov. This was very popular last winter and had great support. You are also reminded that Browns on the Green continue their very popular and tasty Bistro Menu on Fri, Sat and Sun evenings. Your support for our club, bar and restaurant over the quiet winter months is particularly appreciated.
Well done to Jackie Ireland who completed the Dublin City Marathon and hopefully normal golf will be resuming shortly for her!
Finally a quick thanks to my friends, Marie Gilligan and Dana Clinton in Portsalon for this weeks golf tip, during the ladies links. A new word for my golf vocabulary – putt with authority. We just have to work on the line!
