The President of Letterkenny Institute of Technology has said the college will continue to be a beacon of hope for students in these tough economic times.
Paul Hannigan was speaking as more than 1,000 students graduated today in a range of subjects including law, nursing, science and creative media.
Mr Hannigan addressed graduates and their families during the Conferring of Awards Ceremony.
He said “LYIT is extremely conscious of its obligation to its region it must now more than ever provide that leadership role in the art of what is possible.
“There are too many voices telling us what we can’t do or what we can’t afford to do. But to me there are things we can’t afford not to do.
“LYIT must remain as a beacon of hope, of the future so that this region can prosper with the benefit of those graduating today,” he said.
He also paid tribiute to the staff of the LYIT over its 41 history for working closely with students in heling them follow those dreams.
“The staff within the Institute have taken on substantial change over the last number of years, particularly in designing and implementing new programmes right across the college.
“This work has resulted in a greater choice for students joining us but also a more relevant offering to industry with extended work placements and matching outputs to employment trends.
“This work is done to improve the opportunities for our graduates as the Chairman has already said,” he said.
