Snow on the hills, sleet and hail on lower ground and freezing temperatures overnight will leave many roads slippy, warned Met Eireann.
“It’s very cold over the North West tonight,” said a Met Eireann spokesman,
“A few showers feeding into Northern counties have been turning wintry on hills.
“Overnight it will be chilly as the Northerly wind eases overland with temperatures falling to around freezing in many areas giving frost inland, especially in sheltered areas, and the risk of some icy patches on damp roads.”
The spokesman said Saturday will start bright and frosty before wind and rain lashes Donegal on Saturday night.
Driven by northerly winds it will feel bitterly cold.
Sunday will see more persistent driving rain, again with northerly winds.
Monday looks like being dry and clear – but it will remain cold.
