ALL-IRELAND winner Eamon McGee has revealed how he initially turned down the chance to join the Donegal panel – because he didn’t believe boss Jim McGuinness.
The 28-year-old Gaoth Dobhair man said he only changed his mind because his brother Neil was raving about the Glenties man.
“Initially I wasn’t part of the squad and wasn’t prepared to put in what Jim wanted of me,” admitted Eamon.
“When I first met him (Jim) he was talking of winning All-Irelands and I’d love to be here now and say I believed him from day one – but I doubted it.
“I had heard that talk so many times off three or four different managers saying we are going to win this and that and confidence was that low I couldn’t believe it.
“But I saw a different change in the set-up and Neil would be coming home at night from training and I could see there was something there and I was thinking ‘this man might be on to something’.
“And when I came in after the spring time of last year I could see they were in good shape and in a good place and I knew from speaking to Jim that this could be something.”
