A Garda bravely rescued a woman from a blazing housefire in Donegal Town.

The Garda is being hailed a hero after coming to the unconscious woman’s aid in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai were alerted to the fire at a house in The Mullins area this morning at 4.45am.

They arrived on scene minutes later to find the house had been completed engulfed by flames.

The Garda bravely entered the building and rescued the woman who is in her 30s. It is understood she had been overcome by smoke.

Ambulance crews and the Fire Service arrived at the scene a short time later and the woman was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment.

No one else was in the house at the time of the fire – the scene has been preserved pending an investigation but it is believed the fire started accidentally.
