A Donegal man who lost a gut-busting 10 stone in weight is to feature on hit American television health show The Doctors.
Paddy Bond (right – as he was!) from Ramelton tipped the scales at a frightening 26 stone.
But now the one-time swimming champ (see inside for new-look Paddy!) has shed a staggering 10 stone and looks quite the athlete again.
So much so that producers of the American health show asked electrician Paddy, 33, to share his top tip with millions of viewers.
Now ‘before and after’ pictures of Paddy are to be broadcast on the CBS show across America.
Father of four Paddy will appear on the show next week to give his tip to people looking to lose weight.
Paddy’s tip will be “You control food – don’t let food control you.”
Paddy puts his huge weight gain down to being beaten in a swimming race which saw him leave the water for a few months.
“I was just fed up and started to eat and eat. I couldn’t stop.
“The pounds piled on and before I knew it I was more than 26 stone. I was even finding it hard to walk,” he said.
Paddy’s wife Catherine joined Slimming World in 2010 and Paddy didn’t want to be left behind.
“Catherine lost 3 stone and looks amazing. I said what she can do then I could do as well. So I did.
“The weight started to come off and I was always onto sport so I got back into it again,” he said.
The Donegal man has dropped from size 46 to 34 waist trousers and from 19 and a half to 16 and a half inch shirt neck.
Asked how he did it Paddy says he simply thought about what he was eating.
“I have never stopped eating. I just gave myself rewards. If I wanted a chocolate bar I would make a time that I was going to have one but I would look after myself in between.
“I would make myself bigger than the food and make the choices. If I thought I was going to have a chocolate bar I would replace it with an apple and move on – end of story,” he said.
Paddy said his four children love their new look daddy and he did it as much for them and his wife as he did for himself.
“It will sound mad but I was thinking that I didn’t want to have to have a reinforced coffin if I died.
“I feel great these days. I still have to work on watching what I’m eating every day but as long as I know I have to and recognize that then that’s half the battle,” he said.
Paddy was asked to tell The Doctors television show his story but was shocked when he received a reply just two days later.
“I Facebooked them and told them my story. I couldn’t believe it when they called two days later.
“I can’t believe my story will be seen by 300 million people across America. I hope it can help and encourage some people,” he said.
