Senior League final:
The seniors are in the Senior League Final which is being played this Saturday 27th October in Ruislip at 2.30pm against St Kiernan’s. It’s another opportunity to add another piece of silverware to those already won this season. It’s also an opportunity for all those that are coming over to London from Ireland to the Gala Ball that evening to see the 2012 London senior champions.
Under 21 Semi final:
The Gaels U-21s are playing in the semi-final of the championship on Sunday 28th October against the Parnells. Check local papers or club website for time and venue to be confirmed.
Farewell Party:
Last Saturday Night 20th October the club held a party for club president Michael Mc Glynn and his wife Margaret who are retiring back home to Donegal. Mickey and Margaret have being actively involved with the club for well over 30 years and they have decided to call it a day in London to go back to tropical Dunkinnelly. There was a mass in the clubhouse and then afterwards a party to finish the night off.
Michael took to the stage to thank their many friends who had turned up to bid them farewell and said an emotional few words to finish off an enjoyable evening.
All at the club wish them a happy and relaxing retirement and look forward to seeing return each year for the Peter Mc Glynn memorial tournament.
Sam’s in Town for launch of 50 year book:
The club have the honour of hosting the Sam Maguire this Friday 26th October and they are also launching the 50 Year Book. The Donegal County Board have being very kind in allowing “Sam Maguire” to visit the clubhouse for those that wish to see, kiss, hold and have photos with it. So please come along and see a unique piece of Gaa history. Also as many know the club has done a 50 year book of the club and its highs and lows. A great read with lots of photos and reasonably priced at £10. The book will be available for purchase on the night. Don’t miss out as there are only a limited number of copies. Proceedings start at 8.30pm with live music throughout the night.
Gala Ball:
This Saturday after months of preparation the club will hold its 50th Gala ball for 300 guests at the Crown Moran Hotel. We will be welcoming many members of the original founding members and many ex-players and members from down through the years. It will be a great night of celebrations with the London championship trophy on show along with us displaying many photos from the last fifty years.
All guests are reminded again that it is a black tie affair, champagne reception from 7pm followed by dinner at 8pm. Music will be provided from the Barry Owen band.
Irish World Awards:
The club collected an award last Saturday evening at the Irish World awards night in Hammersmith for celebrating 50 years of GAA in London.
Chairman Tom Mohan collected the award on behalf of the club and thanked the Irish World newspaper for their recognition and a fantastic evening’s entertainment.
Birthday Boy:
The club would like to pass on our best wishes to club legend John Toland on reaching a milestone birthday last weekend. John who turned 50 plus VAT was on a high with the great news that he and wife Mary became grand parents for the first time. Without doubt the baby’s head will be wet at the weekends dinner dance in the Crown with the baby to be named strong BO, MARY down or MAGner!!
Baby News:
More good news came out at the weekend was that former championship winning captain Hughie Cunningham became a dad for the first time.
Hughie’s wife Michaela gave birth to baby Eve (Beag) at the weekend with all doing well. Hughie will be organising a golf holiday to celebrate the new arrival.
