Conditions could not of been better for the 2012 Four Masters Cycling Club Poison Glen Tour.
Rolling out of the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny the controlled group of over 60 riders made their way towards the Muckish gap via Kilmacrennan and Glenveagh National Park to take on the first climb of the day.
At this point the lead pace cars moved ahead to let everyone tackle this climb at their own pace before re-group the bunch a few miles outside Falcarragh. With everyone back together we got safely through Falcarragh thank to James Harkin of Errigal CC, who organised the marshals. With a steady pace on into Gortahork it was straight down the back of Errigal Mountain to the feed stop at An Chuirt Hotel.
Home-made scones went down a threat at An Chuirt as everyone relaxed for a bit and mingled, in no hurry as the sun was shinning.
With no controlled pace for the last 30 miles the pace heated up, up the Poison Glen with the 2 leading grouped not taking time to admire the Donegal Scenery.
One of the last people to leave the feed station was professional rider Philip Deignan of United Healthcare, although signing on today under his Four Masters club, it was not long before he was at the front playing with the local guys. With groups being split all over the road it was like scenes of the John Deere Classic race which was held here back in 2007.
Small groups made their way back to Letterkenny again via Gartan and the tough climb into Churchill village. Back at the Aura Leisure Centre everyone was treated to a well deserved feed laid on by Michelle and Naomi.
Four Masters CC would like to thank everyone who turned up to take part, Paul Devenney for the superb marshalling on the motorbike, James Harkin for marshalling Falcarragh, An Chuirt Hotel, Aura Leisure Centre and all the club members who helped out.
Four Masters Sunday training runs will continue next Sunday leaving the Aura Leisure Centre at 9.00am sharp. Everyone (Age 14+) is welcome to take part in these training runs and you do not have to be club member. At present the run will be app 2 hours. We will also have a support car present and ask anyone who attends to please contribute €2.00 towards fuelling the car.
