It may be Arthur’s Day throughout Ireland today but it’s very much Murphy’s Day in Co Donegal.
We can reveal that the Donegal GAA team will finish their ‘world tour of Donegal’ with a rousing celebration at captain Michael Murphy’s club in Glenswilly this evening.
A huge crowd is expected at the club which is also home to Neil Gallagher and Gary ‘Copper’ McFadden.
At this stage it is unclear as to what time the team will arrive but initial estimates say it will be 10pm or later.
It was believed that the celebrations at Glenswilly would not take place until Sunday evening.
But manager Jim McGuinness stepped in and said the payers would now go out of their way to finish up their celebrations this evening in Glenswilly.
A spokesman for the club said they are delighted by the move and look forward to welcoming the team and especially their three club players.
“It’s going to be a great night. This team and the management have Donegal proud and we will never be able to thank them.
“They are role models for our children and we should be very proud of how they represented us on the national stage.
“It could be a little bit late when the team arrives in Glenswilly but it’s not often that we welcome home our team with the Sam Maguire cup,” he said.
There will be music and craic and plenty of speeches at tonight’s final homecoming event.
Check Donegal Daily later for a better estimate of arrival for the team at their last celebration.
