THE MAN who was a mascot for the 1992 All-Ireland winning team said ‘I do’ on Friday – to his girlfriend from Co Mayo.
Joe O’Donnell from Mountcharles was just eight when he led the Donegal team onto the Croke Park pitch.
Yesterday the Westport-based sales manager married Fiona O’Toole at a chapel in the Sligo village of Grange.
Friends and family from both counties were among 25o guests as the couple posed for pictures waving their county flags.
And they even swapped flags at one stage – showing the rivalry for this final is very friendly indeed.
On Sunday the couple will take their seats at Croke Park for the match – though this time Joe will be in the stands with his new bride.
Jimmy’s Winning Matches was played at the reception at a Sligo hotel last night.
Said Joe: “We had a great day and the craic around the match was very special. One of us is going to be very happy on Sunday evening, but sure whoever that is won’t mind by the time we get on honeymoon to America on Tuesday.”
New wife Fiona, from the island of Inishturk, added: “The wedding ceremony was lovely and it was great to see the flags. May the best team now win on Sunday.”
The after party is in Westport tonight – followed by the after after party in Dublin tomorrow.
