The Mayor of Donegal Cllr. Frank McBrearty, on behalf of the elected members, management and staff of Donegal County Council would like to wish Jim McGuinness and the Donegal team all the best for their all Ireland final next Sunday.
Speaking after Monday’s Council meeting the Mayor said although nothing would give him greater pleasure than Donegal winning the all-Ireland final and bringing the Sam Maguire back to Donegal, win or lose we will all be there to support the team and Jim McGuinness.
“The feel good factor that has been generated by the Donegal football team is tremendous and is particularly special bearing in mind the times that are in it.”
The Mayor added that “I would like to encourage everyone attending the game next weekend to wear the Donegal colours and I am looking forward to a great display of green and gold in Croke Park and this will be a sign to the rest of the country that the Hills of Donegal are alive and well.
“It is a great pleasure for me to be Mayor this year, the year when the Donegal team has achieved so much. In 1992 when Donegal were last playing in the all-Ireland final I had just returned home from working in London and couldn’t get a ticket to the match. So this year, twenty years on, it is a great honour to be Mayor of Donegal.”
The Mayor said he would also like to take this opportunity to support Donegal County Councils road safety campaign message ‘Slow Down for the Show Down’ which aims to bring down traffic speeds on our roads particularly during the all-Ireland weekend.
“I would encourage everyone to drive safely, to drink responsibly and to look after each other during this weekend”.
