Members of one Donegal GAA club say they are being tormented by begging letters and phonecalls after a rumour started that they received an extra allocation of All-Ireland Final tickets.
Rumours have been spreading like wildfire that Sean MacCumhaills GAA club in the Twin Towns received an extra 119 tickets.
Now committee members have been receiving late night phonecalls, texts and even begging letters through their door for the phantom tickets.
Secretary of Sean MacCumhaills, Peter Maloney, said he thought there could be a malicious side to the rumours.
“I think there could be a malicious side to it. What we want to say is that they have to stop.
“We don’t know where these rumours are coming from.
“It is causing a lot of torment to our committee members who are receiving all sorts of phonecalls at two, three, four and five o’clock in the morning.
“It’s just gone beyond a joke. We are getting texts and letters have even been dropped into letter boxes in the middle of the night,” he said.
Mr Maloney said the rumours are that the club was even selling the extra tickets for just €10 each.
“I can state categorically that this is not the case and we have no extra tickets.
“We would ask people to stop contacting members because all our tickets have been allocated,” he said.
