Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 23rd September
U16 Hurling: The U16 A Championship Final will take place on Thursday 20th September in O’Donnell Park Letterkenny. Throw-in is at 6.15pm and all support is welcome. What a great opportunity to get a massive weekend of GAA off to a great start, good luck to the team and the mentors. Bun Cranncha abú.
All-Ireland Final: Firstly, the club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in painting the area green and gold in support of Ryan, Jim and the lads ahead of Sunday’s historical encounter with Mayo. It is clear from the amount of flags and decorations that the entire community is behind the squad. Lastly, good luck to the Donegal squad, mentors and especially Ryan. Everyone at the club and in the community is proud of your outstanding achievements so far and we thoroughly believe you can go one further on Sunday, ádh mór ort Ryan.
Senior Football: Our Senior and Reserve sides faced fellow Inishowen club Naomh Padraig Muff on Saturday evening in Ishkaheen. Buncrana were able to field a strengthened squad following the return of a number of players from the States, whilst also welcoming a number of this years U21 squad. It was a close encounter throughout and Buncrana will be happy to come away with two points, but will be aware that there is room for improvement. There were notable performances from Peter McLaughlin and Darragh O’Connor in the forward line, whilst Michael Gallagher and Kevin O’Loughlin were solid at the back. Some vital scores in the last ten minutes ensured that Buncrana ran out eventual winners by eight points. FT Naomh Padraig 1-14 Buncrana 4-13.
A good team display by the Senior Reserves also resulted in a win for Buncrana. There were good performances from Ruairí Connolly and Andrew McLaughlin, whilst Bruce Waldron was man of the match. FT Noamh Padraig 1-8 Buncrana 3-11.
Congratulations: Congratulations to Matthew O’Donnell, former senior player, who now has a Toronto Championship medal to add to the Intermediate Championship medal he previously won with the Buncrana, following St. Vincent’s victory last week.
Coffee Morning: There will be a Coffee morning in O’Flaherty’s bar on Friday 21st from 11am until 3pm. Proceeds in aid of Donegal Hospice. Please come along to support a great cause and get the All-Ireland weekend off to a great start.
U16 Girls Football: Last week the U16 Girls played Killygordan on a wet and windy night in Killygordan, however the weather failed to affect the performance of the Buncrana girls. Our girls started the game strongly racking up a tally of 5-5 to 0-5 in the first half. Going into the second half the girls were not going to give Killygordan any chance to get back into the game, and a final score of 7-9 to 0-5 makes for a good scoreline for the final league game of the season. Simple passing and good teamwork paid off for Buncrana. It is a young side, with only 5 players over age next year and the majority of the team are still playing in the U14 and even U13 age groups. Things look very promising for the future.
5 MIle Walk/Run: Buncrana GAA have launched an exciting new annual event 5 Mile Road Race/Walk on All Ireland Final Weekend, Friday 21st September in aid of the Youth Development Fund. Runners & Walkers at all levels welcomed, please pre-register by emailing buncranagaa@gmail.com.
