Diane has been volunteering with the Family Resource Centre since just before the summer break and again during the summer project. We look forward to working with Diane over the next number of months. Our best wishes are extended to our other Youth Support Worker, Robert Porter and we look forward to his return in a few weeks time.

The Family Resource Centre would like to take this opportunity to welcome Vicki Sloan as the new Matron of the Royal and Prior Boarding School and already Vicki has called with us to involve the Boarders in some of our activities. We wish her well in her new post.
Farewell to Kathrina!
The Family Resource Centre bids farewell to Kathrina O’Flanagan who has just completed a four week placement with us through North West Computers. This was Kathrina’s second placement with us and once again it was a very positive experience for the Family Resource Centre. During her short spell with us Kathrina has developed a register of contact names and numbers of local organizations/ groups and businesses that will be a useful resource for anyone moving into or back to the Raphoe area. The register will be available free of charge.
Congratulations!
The Family Resource Centre would like to extend heartiest congratulations to our good friends at Raphoe Tidy Towns for gaining further points in Category C of the National Tidy Towns Competition 2012. They also received a Silver Medal Award in this year’s competition being the second tidiest town of its size in the counties; Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Sligo and Leitrim. Well done to all the hard working Committee and the CE Workers under the supervision of Martin Laird, and keep up the good work!
Border Villages Social Integration Project
Thanks to all those who attended the recent discussion on ‘belonging’, facilitated by Owen Donnelly of the Peace and Reconciliation Group based in Derry. There has been very positive feedback on the discussion and it is hoped that further discussion workshops will take place over the next few months. The Border Villages Social Integration Project is supported by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund, through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Donegal County Council.
Afterschool Programme
Welcome back to all the young people who have returned to the Afterschool Programme and we are delighted to see a number of new faces!
The Youth Café on Wednesday evenings is also back and again we had some new young people attending. The Youth Café will soon be engaging in 3 drama workshops facilitated by Smashing Times Theatre Company through its ‘creative connections’ project. This innovative project uses drama and theatre to promote a respect for human rights as a key stepping stone for peace-building, non violence and an end of racism and sectarianism in Donegal and on a cross-border basis. This project is one of eight cross-border community grant scheme projects funded by the Peace III programme and Donegal County Development Board Peace and Reconciliation Partnership.

TRAINING FOR TRANSFORMATION
In 1999 the Family Resource Centre (then Raphoe Youth & Community Project) brought the Training for Transformation Programme to Raphoe. At that time 20 community leaders/activists participated in the training over several months. Training for Transformation is built on the idea of building a “temporary learning community”, and by doing so, learning the tools of building a sense of community in our own places built on three distinct realities; that everyone feels a sense of being safe and accepted, that everyone feels they are important, significant and has a part to play, that everyone feels a common bond, a sense of solidarity.
Training for Transformation is ideal for developing leadership capacity at grassroots level, creating and deepening a sense of community among diverse groups, particularly those with a history of conflict, and developing skills for community building by experience, a process that is inclusive, participative and built around fostering human relationships.
Partners, the community education agency working in Ireland for over 25 years and who delivered the programme in Raphoe in 1999 is now keen to return to Raphoe and East Donegal to run the Programme again and are in the process of drafting an application to the Department of Foreign Affairs. To support that application Partners are keen to base the application on the needs of groups around East Donegal, and will visit the area shortly to hear first hand the needs of local organisations.
In the meantime, if you are interested in participating in the training please contact Tony on 074 9145796.
