Noel’s Delight in President’s Day win at Portsalon
On Saturday 1st September the members of Portsalon Golf Club contested for the second major golfing title of the year. This was Willie Mc Cleary’s second year of his term as President of Portsalon Golf Club. The event was staged with an 18 hole stableford course. With a strong breeze blowing across the Banks it left conditions difficult for good golf. The overall winner was 10 handicapper Noel Mc Cormick who mastered the difficult conditions to win the President prize with an amazing 40 points.
Runner up was Michael Shields (16) 39 points, Gross Phillip Durning (7) 29 points 3rd Anthony Toland (18) 37 points, 4th Ian Morton (13) 37 points. Best nines went to Paddy Mc Groarty and Chris Williams and the winner of the past Presidents prize was John Strain, country menbers prize was won by Barry Overend (19) 35 points with Aidan Langan (15) runner up with 34 points. The CSS on the day was 36 points.On Thursday last the Portsalon ladies and junior members contested for the Presidents prize and the winner of the ladies section was Sara Nicholl and Connor Mc Fadden collected the junior award The Captain D P Logue congratulated the President on this his special day at Portsalon Golf Club. He said Williehas been a member of Portsalon Golf Club for a long number of years and played an important part in the purchase and development of the course He said that it was indeed his honour to be Captain and work alongside Willie during his term of office. The President Willie Mc Cleary welcomed his wife Margaret,family , a special welcome to his grandson Peter, visitors and the club members to Portsalon Golf Club on this his Presidents Day. The President thanked the members and his guests who participated in this his second Presidents Day at Portsalon Golf Club. He thanked the members for the honour bestowed upon him and indeed it is his privilege to be President of Portsalon Golf Club. The President thanked the members who turned out and played in such numbers despite the poor weather conditions. He thanked Sean Mc Gettigan and his catering staff for the magnificent food served on the night. He thanked Grace and Carina for all their work during the day.
Captains Outing
One of the onerous tasks bestowed on the vice captain is to organise the captains outing. The vice captain Joe Harkin has this year arrange a remarkable golfing feast with golf to take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2012. The event will be staged at our twinned partner Headford Golf Course Kells Co Meath .With hotel accommodation arranged at the Headford Arms Hotel one night bed & breakfast and one evening meal. The all in price for accommodation and golf is €110. As places are limited for further details contact the clubhouse on 0749259459 or contact the vice captain Joe Harkin. Please forward your name and deposit of €50 to either Joe Harkin or to the office staff. Remember if no deposit is paid there will be no reservation made.
Portsalon Winter Links
The Portsalon winter links details have been announced for the coming season. The event will be staged exclusively at Portsalon Golf Course. The first outing is scheduled to tee off on Saturday 29th September. Membership to the event will be Portsalon members €10 with visitors €15., entry into each days competition thereafter Portsalon members €10, visitors €20.The normal prize format of four nett and four gross prizes will be on offer (depending on the entry). The dates for this year’s event are as follows; 29th September, 13th & 27th October, 10th &24th November 2012, 19th January 2013, 9th 723rd February and Captains day on March 9th If you are interested in joining this winter links competition, contact 07491 59459 or go online to book you place.

On Saturday 8th September the past captains of Portsalon will contest for the past captains cup, on Sunday 9th there is a members competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.
Results
The winner of the Sunday member’s competition was Anthony Toland (17) with 40 points, Runner up D P Logue (5) 39 points. Gross Ryan Mc Gettigan (7) 31 points.The CSS was 37 points. On Wednesday the winner of the open competition was : Ryan Mc Gettigan (8) 40 points BOT Runner Up: Bernard Nash (16) 40 points Gross: Eamon Mc Dermott (4) 33 points Third: Chuck Mc Taggart (12) 39 points BOT. The CSS was 37 points
